MUKAI MAHACHI ON THE MOVE

Teen sensation Mukai Mahachi was the overall winner for the “Sing Your Way to Paris” competition held over the weekend at Alliance Française. She walked away with a trip to Paris and gift hampers from sponsors such as Bon Marche’ and a suitcase.

Mahachi (17), a Lower Sixth student at Dominican Convent, beat other 13 finalists at a well attended festival that falls under the two-week-long Francophonie Festival.
The teenager, who was also the crowd’s favourite, was part of the top six who also walked away with prizes including a trip to Victoria Falls for the top three.
The top six was dominated by girls, namely Tinatsei Deve, Ruvimbo Mutanhire, Tarisai Mutandwa, Kwekweshiwe Mutambo, Mufaro Mugabe and the winner Mahachi.
However, there was no doubt that Mahachi would emerge a winner because of her energetic performance and she stole the limelight as she brought the Zimbabwean flag on stage while singing which drove the crowd into a frenzy.
In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Mahachi said she was happy and shocked at the same time.

“Wow, I am so excited and shocked considering the tough competition I had with other finalists. I am really grateful that I am the winner and to represent my country well in Paris,” she said.
Mahachi sang “Femme de Couler” by French pop star Shy’m and said music will always be part of her life.
“I thank God for giving me such talent.
“I sang, ‘Femme de Couler’ which was done Shy’m, who is one of the most successful French singers of the 21st century, with three platinum, including her number one 2012 album, ‘Caméléon’. It is a dance song and I believe that I nailed it. Music will always be part of my life,” she said.
Shy’m has been well recognised in her country as she had received the NRJ Music Award for Francophone Female Artiste of the Year both in 2012 and 2013.
Mahachi said the song means “Woman of Colour”.
“The song advocates for racial tolerance and people should love each other despite race differences. I want to thank my O-Level French teacher who discovered my talent. She said to me, one day that ‘Do you want to sing your way to Paris’ and I said ‘Yes’. I urge my peers not to look back but stay focused,” she said.
Award winner Cynthia Mare also put up a scintillating performance as both singer and master of ceremonies.
She performed most of her popular songs such as “Moto Ngaubvire” and “Dai Zvaibvira”.
Last year saw another Dominican Convent, 17-year-old Dumisile Mphamba, walking away with the grand prize.
The annual competition is open to youths from 14 to 26 years old and each contestant is required to sing in French.

Buchi - It Is Well

KING BUCHI overturns the 'tables and cables' of the reggae music genre as he presents Reggae Gospel hit song titled: "It Is Well"

BIOGRAPHY:
Born in Kaduna , Nigeria to parents of Abia State origin, Buchi’s early education began in Enugu and took him through Methodist College , Uzuakoli and Federal Government College , Enugu . In 1983, he came to Lagos to study English Language and Literary Studies at the University of Lagos , obtained a BA in 1986, MA in 1988 and later the same year took up an appointment to lecture at the same institution alongside a PhD programe. Buchi remained at the Department of English until 1994 when he yielded to the higher calling to propagate the gospel of Jesus through writing and singing in the reggae genre.
While in the university, his casual involvement in black activism through reggae club grew more intense after listening to Oliver Thambo and the officials of ANC (African National Congress) from South Africa, during the club’s exhibition on “Apartheid in South Africa” Again, having studied the black activist literature of Dennis Bruts, Wole Soyinka, Muta Baruka and the likes, Buchi’s preoccupation with reggae music as an “outcry against oppression” became deeper. Little wonder he also became involved in one of the campus confraternities which at the time prided themselves as anti oppression movements. This preoccupation with reggae music took a new turn when his friend Ras Kimono invited him to join the team of deejays on the Floating Bukka – a reggae nightclub situated on a docked vessel on the Marina , Lagos Island .
Foremost on the list of Buchi’s strong musical influences are Eric Donaldson, Joseph Hills , Burning Spear and Frankie Paul. In 1992, Buchi gave his life to Jesus in Christ Embassy Church and transmitted from the nightclub to the choir of that ministry, where he has remained till date. 1st album released 1999 (These Days) 2nd album released 2002 (So Beautiful) 3rd album released 2005 (What a Life) Married to Jane with 4 children Has ministered in church concerts including Reinhard Burnke’s stadium-packed outreaches. Multiple award winner including prestigious AMEN for Best in Gospel Category, 1999 Faith, POMP and TOMA Awards for Best Artiste, Reggae Artiste and Gospel album of the year variously.

Norman Chiranga
LOCAL comedian Norman Chiranga, better known as Landlord Chirebvu in his growing comedy series titled Landlord Nemaroja, recently released Part 8 of his productions titled "Zva- Zvinhu".

KING CALEMAN
Edu-tainment Report

Recently, the comedian presents the current day-to-day relations of landlords and their tenants as well as the relations between employers and their maids and gardeners in a witty way.
“In this season I looked for a story that most locals could relate to, putting a rib-cracking feel to various relations between landlords and their tenants as well as housemaids, gardeners and their employers,” Chirebvu said.
Chirebvu started acting in 1999 and his first ever television showcase was in 2010 together with his well known comedian friends Mabla 10 and Kahembe before splitting a year later to go solo.
Chirebvu said after their first television breakthrough, he decided to go solo as he had a vision of continuing comedy in a way that was different from his friends.
“Ever since the release of this series, I am very much impressed with the response I am getting from various cities including Mutare and Chinhoyi, as well as receiving calls from people who have watched my work in South Africa, Zambia and Mozambique,” he said.
He added that although piracy was a problem that many people in the arts sector were facing, it would not stop him from living his dream as a comedian despite the frustrations.
In his latest offering, he includes other talented actors like Hebron Tembho aka Sculbowy of the Bag Rabvaruka fame and Portia Nota, aka Mafuta, who is well known for pulling crowds, among others.
“I am inspired by everyone I meet as each person has a story, but my local role model is Lazarus Boora, better known as Gringo, who I find really inspiring and talented,” said Chirebvu.
He said that his producer, Tichaona Pawakwenyewa of Annointed Communications, had also played a major role in helping his projects to become a success.
